My Facebook Profile went black for 24 hours on September 30, 2018. Here's WHY:

To my friends near and far – I want you to know WHY I have made my profile picture black for 24 hours. I am OK. My family is OK – no worries, please. I have taken this step to stand in solidarity with women ALL OVER THE WORLD against abuse of any kind.

I would like to give a SHOUT OUT to the significant men in my life – my dad, my husband, my sons…and many more. THEY have been respectful of and loving towards me. Unlike so many, I have not been a victim of abuse – though, as I reflect, I have experienced inappropriate behavior from men at various points throughout my life. Still, I have many friends who have suffered. I stand with THEM, especially.

Some may see this as a political move. I will confess, I’m sickened by what I see in American society right now. Divisions, rancor, ugliness. It comes down from the top, and with this small action, I am saying in my own way, THIS IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE in a freedom-loving democracy!

But I also want you to know – and this is important – I believe in a God who is bigger than all this and who is in control. In the end, no matter what happens, ultimate JUSTICE will be done.

Meanwhile, I’m simply trying to “find my way” to be a voice for Truth, Justice, Love and Hope. You may or may not agree with my move to do this. But, I hope you will respect and support the freedom from which taking such a very small step comes. And, if you are a woman and want to stand in solidarity, too, please join this movement.

P.S. One friend pointed me to this article which makes many valid points, some with which I agree. Still, I chose to participate for a day, and it has prompted some worthwhile connection and dialogue with friends.
