Every so often, it's good to get back to the basics. Here I explain why we have built and are growing YourGlobalFamily. And why it can be valuable for you.
Who we create and write for
We began our blogging journey almost three years ago, building a website called CultureWeave. There, we focused on intercultural communications and experiences we've had with people from other cultures.
We loved that, but just under a year ago we sought to better define our audience and sharpen our focus.
CultureWeave became YourGlobalFamily. We now create and write specifically to help parents raise globally minded kids. It's all about mindset and equipping, and loving the process.
We want to reach busy parents of kids ages 0-15 who desire to help their children experience the world AND become positive, productive and thoughtful contributors to it, both during their childhood and as adults.
If you fall outside of this audience, this does not mean you have nothing to gain from being here. Educators, aunts/uncles, grandparents or others who work with children in some capacity all can gain a lot through the materials we're developing at YourGlobalFamily.
Those who fall outside any of these other categories need to know this: We frequently share cultural and travel experiences and tips you may find helpful. You can pick and choose.
WHY we are growing YourGlobalFamily
We have enjoyed over two decades of experience in international education and service through our association and work with International Students, Inc. Over this time we have interacted with – and become friends with – thousands of international students, scholars, wives, couples and families. And we continue to do so.
During this time, we have also raised three kids into adulthood. They are happy, well-adjusted, contributive human beings. Each is finding his/her way forward. But I can confidently say, on balance, we have excellent relationships with each one. (And I think we can take, at most, five-percent credit for that. The rest, we believe, is thanks to God.)
In the midst of our parenting journey, we also headed to China and lived abroad as a family. You can find out more about this by reading this blog post or checking out my book, here. We want to assist, encourage and inspire other families to do this as well.
Finally, Dale has been a high school teacher for 25+ years. He really “gets” high school-aged kids and has a keen insight to their development. For our parenting experience personally, that has been a huge asset for which I’m (we’re) grateful.
We believe it’s time to take what we’ve learned as we’ve traveled along these different, but parallel, roads and share them with others now in the earlier stages of the journey.
And also, we now live in an age of growing isolationism and ethnocentrism. Our approach is all about bucking that trend. We believe in the power of principles and values, yes. But one of those is that our greatest strength is found in harnessing the remarkable diversity of human experience.
Briefly, here are 5 clear ways YourGlobalFamily can benefit you:
1 | You can grow in insight and your UNDERSTANDING of our world – and pass that along to your kids – through reading and applying our 150+ blog posts to your own life.
2 | You can become part of a growing CONVERSATION and COMMUNITY of people who want to learn about the world and have a more positive impact upon it.
3 | You can take advantage of our created and curated RESOURCES – For example, check out this page and this page. You can also get on our weekly mailing list, where we share more.
4 | You can TRAVEL with us in the future. We intend to take small groups of families on adventures to experience different cultures firsthand through the contacts and networks we have. Let us be your guide!
